Ensaaf · Defending Human Rights

Evidence-to-Action, one case at a time

AI is being used to commit atrocities, and the people seeking justice still work by hand.

The idea

Ensaaf has spent years documenting human rights abuses in Punjab: case records in REDCap, victim profiles, interview transcripts, newspaper archives, photographs and video. Their goal is an Evidence-to-Action platform where researchers, journalists and the sangat can discover connections and trace each one back to the original evidence. At Build Day, teams build a working slice of it, taking one or two cases from raw evidence to something anyone can explore. A researcher asks "show me the evidence connecting this person, this place and this event" and sees the results, how they relate, and the exact page, paragraph or timestamp each fact came from. The hard AI challenge is the matching: recognizing that different spellings, Punjabi and English names, and passing references all point to the same person, place or event, without ever losing the link back to the source. Get it right for one case, and the same pipeline can open up everything Ensaaf has gathered.
